Last time out in Singapore, defending champion Sebastian Vettel scored his ninth victory of the season at the Marina Bay Street Circuit and now needs just one more point to become the youngest back-to-back and double world champion.
Vettel has won the previous two Japanese Grand Prix and will be the massive favourite to secure his tenth victory of the season.
In comparison, Vettel’s Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber endured another disappointing performance despite finishing third.
A poor start hindered the Australian yet again, and he must put this right in the remaining five races, if he is to stand a chance of finishing second in the drivers’ championship.
McLaren driver Jenson Button continued his fine form as he pushed Vettel to the very end, before crossing the line in second place.
Button currently resides in second-place, 124-points behind leader Vettel, with just 125 points available from the final five races. The Brit is fighting for second-place unless, Vettel fails to score a single point, and Button wins all five remaining races.
Lewis Hamilton was at the centre of more controversy, as he collided with Felipe Massa, and received a harsh penalty.
However, despite being down in 19th position at one stage, Hamilton produced a tantalising drive to secure a 5th place finish.
Hamilton will believe he can produce the goods at the Japanese Grand Prix, and will want to prove his critics wrong by producing a strong performance.
Fernando Alonso has won the Japanese Grand Prix twice before and will be determined to make it his third win, this time around.
Last time out Alonso made another strong start, however, it was evident that the Ferrari lacked pace to match either the Red Bull or the McLaren, and subsequently finished fourth.
